Greetings from your President
October, 2007

Hello Again To All,

Well it has been a busy few months…we have processed tons of financial aid helping students attend our schools, we have welcomed another class of students, some of our members are preparing FISAP reports & processing Pell Grants and we have been provided the Code of Conduct for Connecticut. All that and it is only September. Well, no one ever said are lives were dull.

Just as we have been busy at work, so have many of the Committees and Officers for CAPFAA. We have had our first few meetings and discussed how the Code of Conduct will require CAPFAA to make some changes. As discussed in June, we knew changes were on the horizon and now we know some of the guidelines. In the coming weeks and months that picture will become much clearer both for what needs to be done in our offices and also within CAPFAA.

Some of the changes that will occur include looking at CAPFAA’s budget and determining where we need to make adjustments. It was decided at retreat that we will not be printing a membership directory this year; instead you can download a copy from our website. We have looked at our development area and changed the sponsorship system. We have removed some of the printed materials for winter conference and adjusted food menus at our training events to keep costs lower. We have also recognized that some of the registration fees for training events will be slightly higher to address the requirements within the Code of Conduct and within our more restricted budget. But please realize that Executive Council is working diligently to ensure that the quality of our events does not change.

I am also pleased to report that our Committees are doing a wonderful job and working hard. Many of our committees will be holding several events this year, including Fall Training, the Financial Aid Fair and a “Mini-Training in October, the Winter Conference in early December and College Goal Sunday in February. All these are truly great events that I hope everyone will either support by their attendance or volunteerism. Please remember that many of the committees have just started working so there is still time to join a committee if you haven’t yet. It is a great way to network and build relationships.

I wish you a happy start of fall, and remember if you have any ideas or suggestions on something you wish we would offer or do, please let me or anyone from Executive Council know and we will carry your thoughts forward.

Sincerely,

Heather Hamilton, CAPFAA President
