Spring 2026

Letter from the President-Elect

Greetings, True Believers!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Ryan Jones, and I am CAPFAA’s President-Elect and Chair of the Awards, Scholarships, and State & Federal Relations Committees.

I’m sure you have all seen and/or felt the changes to our profession as of late. Examples include the Department of Education (ED) implementing real-time identity fraud detection within the FAFSA as of April 26, 2026, changes to the William D. Ford Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program(s) under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), and the introduction of “mandatory FAFSA completion(s)” for the state of Connecticut’s high school class of 2027.

I understand that while “change is inevitable,” it can be daunting to try and keep pace with. The State & Federal Relations Committee’s “Regulatory Impact Taskforce” continues to monitor updates and will share them with the Association via each month’s news roundup.

As we approach this year’s Annual Business Meeting (ABM) and “my turn to sit in the big chair,” I want you to know that I am honored to serve as your President for 2026-2027. I’ve always felt that CAPFAA’s greatest strength is its membership; particularly, their collective skills and knowledge, which I will be relying on as we move ahead.

The financial aid-landscape continues to evolve, and we will need to be flexible for the sake of our institutions and students. I encourage each of you to attend the ABM if you can, and I look forward to working with you this coming year.

Excelsior!
Ryan Jones
CAPFAA President-Elect
