By Stacey Musulin, University of CT

The Department of Education is calling for comments from interested parties on the following subjects:

  • Model Financial Aid Disclosure Form, AKA “Know Before You Owe”: The Department of Education and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) are co-developing a form for institutions of higher education to use to inform students and families about financial aid awards and, specifically, the costs of student loans. Feedback is being sought now via the http://www.consumerfinance.gov/students/knowbeforeyouowe/ website, where you can view an example of the form. • Title IV Reimbursement or Heightened Cash Monitoring 2 (HCM2): There is a comment request on a form used to gather financial information from institutions and submitted by institutions when requesting payment for Reimbursement or Heightened Cash Monitoring 2 claims. •

  • The National Postsecondary Student Aid Study for the 2011-2012 school year (AKA: NPSAS:12): The NPSAS is a survey and study of how students and their families finance education beyond high school. This information will become part of a later Beginning Postsecondary Students (BPS) study of first-time postsecondary students that will focus on issues of persistence, degree attainment, and employment outcome. This call for comment involves approval for collecting student records, conducting student interviews, and post-data collection administrative functions.
