President’s Message

Dear CAPFAA,

There is no doubt that this academic year will go down as having some of the most memorable moments in history: the first debt ceiling debates, Hurricane Sandy, the Fiscal Cliff, the 2013 Blizzard, shopping sheets, scorecards, and now day four of Sequestration. And wait until the end of March for the second installment of debt ceiling debates. The good news is that we have all survived, and are making incredible strides, regardless of our day-to-day anxieties and ever-increasing levels of administrative requirements.

CAPFAA, like all other Associations, takes the challenges and concerns of its membership seriously. In our capacity, we help each other deal with these issues by providing training, facilitating access or connections with our elected officials, and offering networking opportunities. While I am proud of the work we have done, I think that as an organization we can do much more. Connecticut is a small state which affords us the opportunity to connect with each other from time-to-time without the burden of extensive travel or commitment away from our respective campuses.

For this reason, I earnestly ask that you make a personal pledge or commitment to be an active member of CAPFAA. Over the next several weeks, there will be a number of announcements via the list serve requesting your support joining some of the various committees. We will also be in search of committee Chairs and Co-Chairs. The engine that truly makes this possible is having a dynamic board, so we need people to stand up and run for office. I assure you that you do not have to fundraise, your political affiliation does not matter, and there is no need to kiss any babies. In fact, all you need to do is simply contact Robyn Frick at Roberta.Frick@law.uconn.edu or at (860) 570-5147 to let her know that you might be interested.

If you want to see CAPFAA behind the scenes firsthand, or see how your fellow colleagues carry out the roles of the various positions, please feel free to stop by. I encourage you to visit at least one of the next two Executive Council Meetings scheduled. The meetings are scheduled from 1:00-3:30p.m. at UCONN School of Law’s Starr Building Room 116 on Friday, March 15, and Friday, April 19, 2013.
