On December 14, 2016, Ivette Rivera-Dreyer passed away after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Ivette was Director of Financial Aid at Manchester Community College for many years, but held prior positions at other schools including Capital Community College.

Ivette was passionate about the role financial aid plays in student access to education, and was very active in College Goal Sunday Connecticut. In fact, she contributed an article to CAPFAA’s Fall 2016 newsletter about the history of CGS and the need for volunteers for last October’s event. In the past, Ivette served on and chaired CAPFAA’s Early Awareness Committee, which focused on communicating the financial aid application process with youth and families. In 2011, Ivette was awarded CAPFAA’s P. Jerome Cunningham Distinguished Service Award, given to CAPFAA members in recognition of exemplary service to the financial aid profession.

Ivette’s commitment and energy will be missed. Manchester Community College has begun the process of developing a scholarship in her honor. Ivette’s children, Edgar Alexander Dreyer and Melissa Alexandra Dreyer, have begun implementing her final wishes in setting up an organization called the Light of Faith Foundation with the goal to create scholarships for students and carry on other community works. Contributions to this endeavor may be sent to Light of Faith Foundation, 108 Tunxis Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
