NASFAA Annual State and Regional Training – Satisfactory Academic Progress

This is an in-person training with no additional cost over and above EASFAA membership, and the presenter is our very own Steve McDowell!

The Satisfactory Academic Progress training will cover the following topics:

Foundational concepts
Consumer information requirements
Frequency of evaluations and school options
Quantitative and qualitative components
Consequences of a student not meeting standards
School options related to appeals, financial aid probation, and academic plans
Circumstances and conditions under which a student may appeal a determination and the elements which must be included in an appeal
Requirements of the financial aid probation status and academic plans
Requirements related to regaining eligibility after failing to maintain SAP
Additional elements which must be incorporated into a SAP policy

Presenter:

Steve McDowell has been in Connecticut’s financial aid community for more than 10 years. As the Director of Financial Aid Services for the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities system, he provides leadership in policy analysis and development, along with legislative and regulatory analysis, and program management to the system’s senior leadership and member institutions. Within its 12 system community colleges, Steve’s department also shares a responsibility for the functional use and development of its ERP financial aid module, creating efficiencies and streamlined processes for college users.
