24 Apr Enrollment Reporting Reminders from FSA
by Stacey Musulin, CT State Colleges and Universities
Announcements from Federal Student Aid on the subject of enrollment reporting came out in April. Please share these will your colleagues in the Registrar’s Offices:
- Summer Term Enrollment Reporting – Applicable to Standard-Term institutions with optional summer terms: Do not report students as “withdrawn” in summer unless you have reason to believe they will not attend in fall. If students attend in a summer term at least ½ time, report that status; otherwise, report the spring’s status instead. The following chart was included to clarify:
If the student is enrolled at the end of the spring term… | …And during the summer term is… | …The school should report during the summer: |
Full time | Not enrolled | Full time |
Full time | Full time | Full time |
Full time | Half time | Half time (with an effective date of the beginning of the summer) |
Full time | Less than half time | Full time |
Half time | Not enrolled | Half time |
Half time | Full time | Full time (with an effective date of the beginning of the summer) |
Half time | Half time | Half time |
Half time | Less than half time | Half time |

Less than half time | Less than half time | Less than half time |
- Definitions of various dates critical to enrollment reporting: Note that the “Enrollment Status Effective Date” does not mean the date the college became aware of the status change. Refer to examples of retroactive withdrawals and graduations within this announcement.
- Compliance notifications are coming soon! Schools not reporting enrollment for at least 90% of students on their school’s NSLDS reporting roster will receive a notification. Initial compliance notices will be sent to Financial Aid Administrators and the colleges’ Enrollment Reporting contacts. All institutions should have a separate Enrollment Reporting contact in NSLDS. If corrections are not made, subsequent notices go to college Presidents.
